Huun Huur Tu & a new life goal

About a year ago, through magic wanderings on the internet, I discovered something out of Russia's Republic of Tuva: Huun Huur Tu (which apparently translates to "sun propeller" or "sunbeams").  They are a fascinating traditional Tuvan folk group of throat singers.  Throat singing was something I had never heard of previously but totally floored me when I figured out what was going on.  The diversity of people and culture on this planet is mind blowing sometimes.  This song is called "Legend" from their third album "Fly, Fly My Sadness" and it is hauntingly beautiful to me.  The female voices are from a Bulgarian Women's Choir.  The contrast of these voices... incredible.

Cant wait to hear what dan thinks of this.  Something tells me its just the thing he might be into.  Rofl.
Also as a brilliant side note.  I've been inspired to start a new collection of music.  I want to collect the national anthems of every nation and subnation on the planet.  My favorite has always been the Soviet National Anthem but there are hundreds that I know I've never heard.  Maybe I will turn it into a fancy blog and share it with everyone.  For starters.. here is the national anthem of Tuva called "Men - Tyva Men" which you may notice, also has throat singers.

Music is completely amazing.

Duet

Whoa,.. this is beautiful.

It deserves better audio but this is the best I could find.  Reminds me of another animation I saw a few years ago.  "Thought of you" check it out if you want.  I like this one better though.  Some people really get it.  This is a rare gem.  More info about it all here.. fascinating stuff.

Ignoring the dog of course ...

the games i play

similar to the "a wizard appears unto you" game, i like to play a game that usually starts out with the question: "how much money would it take.." and then i ask an absurd question like "how much money would i have to put in a duffle bag for you to drive that awful looking car over there, for the next 5 years?"  the game is only fun if the person answering can give an honest thoughtful answer.  for some reason i find it fascinating and hugely entertaining to see the breaking point when introducing uncomfortable things into your lives.  sometimes the answers really surprise me.  like in this example.

several months ago i found myself tagging along with clarissa while she did some shopping.  eventually, or maybe i should say, inevitably, we ended up in the shoe section.  which is where i found this little wonder...

now of course my natural and immediate reaction was to turn to her and ask "how much money would i need to put in a bag, for you to wear this shoe and only this shoe, for the next 12 months?"  which i did.

it could be that i simply dont understand women nearly as well as i think i do, it could be that the importance of shoes in general is a concept that has been lost to me for ages, you all know that i hardly wear anything but flip flops on any given day, it could be that these shoes are simply more horrifying than i ever could have guessed, but what ever the case may be.. her answer stunned me.

she didnt have a breaking point.  none.  i made her agonize over the prospect of this shoe for several minutes but there is literally, not enough money in this world to convince her to wear only this shoe for 12 months.  it is impossible for my mind to understand, but i absolutely love it.  this little treasure and others like it are my reward for playing this simple game.

radical

“Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.” ― Jon Krakauer

i can't understand legos

so,.. legos.  they have been around for 65 years and there are about half a trillion of them in the world.  i understand why people like them.  i understand why children and adults can spend lots of time making and unmaking simple things with legos.  its a decent little toy.  but what i dont get is the need to convert the rest of the world INTO legos.  im talking about video games, movies and theme parks.  and also when people try to make real stuff like cars, actual cars.

insanity.

reminds me of the cranberry bit that brian regan does.  i think its time for the "lego man" to take his trophy and go on vacation for a while.  legos are starting to flirt with zombies at the top of the list of things i think the world has WAY too much of.  i am not drinking zombie lego kool-aid, ever.
